The full form of IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It is a world-recognised English language test that is taken for study, migration or work in an English-speaking country.

IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP IELTS, and Cambridge University Press & Assessment. Over three million people take the IELTS test every year, and it is accepted by more than 11,000 employers, universities, schools and immigration bodies around the world. The IELTS Academic test assesses your ability in the four key communicative skills of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The test takes a total of 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete, with Listening, Reading and Writing on the same day, and Speaking up to a week before or after. You can take the IELTS Academic test on paper in a test centre, or on a computer, either in a test centre or in the convenience of your own home.

IELTS Academic is scored on a band score range of 0 to 9, depending on your demonstrated command of the English language. The IELTS score you need will depend on the country, university, workplace or institution you are applying to.
